The four original coast stations on the North Tyne loop (Tynemouth, Cullercoats, Whitley Bay and Monkseaton) all keep many of their original features. Cullercoats is the smallest and most basic but still retains overall canopies and wooden footbridge. Tynemouth is famous for its weekend concourse markets but encouragingly all four stations house small businesses within the buildings. At Cullercoats a dog food retailer plies its trade and it is perhaps a satisfied customer waiting for the approaching train which is destined for Pelaw via South Gosforth. The train just departing is heading for St James via Wallsend with both trains subsequently serving Monument station in Newcastle, albeit at different levels.
