Scotlands Railway will begin construction work to provide step-free access between platforms at Dumfries station.

Network Rail has applied for listed building consent to make the station easier to access for passengers. Network Rail has submitted a planning application to make Dumfries station more easily accessible for passengers. The application for listed building consent was made to Dumfries and Galloway Council and, if approved, will see the construction of a new footbridge with lifts to allow step-free access across both platforms.

Dumfries residents were given a first look at the plans during a community event in the town earlier this month, where it was revealed that the construction of the new bridge is expected to be completed in 2024. Dumfries station is a category B listed building and the designs have been developed to be sympathetic to the look and feel of the historic character of the station.
