Previously Alfreton & South Normanton until closure in 1967, Alfreton & Mansfield Parkway was Britain's second parkway station following Bristol. However the seven-mile distance to Mansfield strained credibility, and it became plain Alfreton after Mansfield regained its passenger service twenty years later on the Robin Hood Line.
