Rodney Street tunnel on the Edinburgh, Leith and Newhaven route is to be reopened after 40 years. The tunnel was last used in the 60s when it provided a link from the north into Scotland Street goods yard. Reopening will allow pedestrians and cyclists to avoid the busy intersection of Broughton Road, Eyre Place, Rodney Street and Canonmills by extending existing cycle/walkways south through the tunnel into King George V Park in the New Town. Work on the £350,000 project is due to start in around four months time and should be completed by the summer of 2007.
