A famous Scottish landmark disappeared today when the 4 towers of Chapelcross Nuclear Power Station were demolished by controlled explosions. The power station, officially closed in 2004, is currently undergoing a lengthy decommissioning process. The towers, which had been part of the landscape near Annan for almost half a century, stood just east of the former Solway Junction Railway and the power station utilised the old trackbed to carry its waste water pipeline south to the Solway Firth.
