A fragment of the Up platform fencing is all that remains of Gogar station. It closed in 1930, unsurprisingly as Gogar parish lacked any centre of population - though there was an ^institution^. A bank HQ now occupies the site of the hospital (no comment) and has a tramstop, but apart from that little has changed. The rural nature is preserved by Edinburgh^s greenbelt and by being cut off from the city by the bypass.

An Edinburgh service passes the site of Gogar station as it slows down for a stop at Edinburgh Park on 22 July 2019. Despite its proximity to the city proper this area is still quite rural, probably thanks to the green belt. Spoiling things a little is the fact that the station site is between a scrapyard on one side of the tracks and chicken sheds on the other, so at least two senses are assaulted. Can I just point out that this is only RailScot second picture of this not terribly obscure or inaccessible location - and that I took the other one.

A Milngavie service passes the site of Gogar station on the E&G on 13 April 2019. Apart from the immediate surroundings this location, cut off from Edinburgh proper by the city bypass, is quite rural. Not much has changed since 1930 when the station closed, though the hamlet of Gogar itself, a full mile away on the Glasgow road, is no more. Its site is occupied by the Gogarburn tram stop. The deconsecrated church survives though; it is occupied by a cabinetmaker which is quite appropriate when you think about it.
