Spanish-owned Scottish Power has signed a £700m contract with Scottish Coal which will see the company take nearly half Scottish Coal's 4 million tonne annual output to help fire Longannet power station, reducing dependence on imports from Russia, South Africa and Columbia. Trial runs have been undertaken between the power station and both Chalmerston and Killoch.
