Down The Drain at Bank station. The Waterloo & City Line, as it is officially known, is primarily a rush-hour commuter service providing a direct link between the City of London, and Waterloo Station. The line, opened in 1898, is totally underground, passes below the Thames, and serves only the 2 stations at Waterloo and Bank (originally City) with a journey time of 4 minutes. The photograph, taken in 1987, shows a train at Bank station, formed of 1940 stock in Network SouthEast livery. Following railway privatisation, responsibility for the line passed to London Underground.
