These trains are currently the oldest on the London Underground but all due for replacement within the next two or three years. This station is an interchange with the LUL Circle, District and Northern Lines and was known as Charing Cross until 1979. The Bakerloo Line is the only line on the London Underground with two terminus stations that both have an '&' in their names but which will cease if and when the mooted southern extension to Lewisham via Old Kent Road ever gets built. This station is also served by London Overground services between London Euston and Watford Junction. Harrow & Wealdstone station was another to escape the former BR regime's 1970s mania for shortening station names with an '&' in them. Indeed, the Bakerloo Line is the only LUL line that runs between two termini with an '&' in their names, Harrow & Wealdstone and Elephant & Castle. However, a much belated southern extension to Lewisham is on the cards but, as with Crossrail, don't hold your breath. Also served by London Overground services, the platforms here and at other stations between Queen's Park and Harrow & Wealdstone do not relate to tube train height and the step up when leaving or down when joining a tube train is very noticeable, not so much of course on the LO trains. 4/11</p><p>18/12/2019<br><small><a href='/contributors/David_Bosher'>David Bosher</a></small></p> <h4><a href='/locations/H/Harlesden'>Harlesden</a></h4><p><small><a href='/companies/N/New_Lines_London_and_North_Western_Railway'>New Lines (London and North Western Railway)</a></small></p><p>Harlesden station, north-west London, served by London Overground services from Watford Junction to Euston and London Underground Bakerloo Line services from Harrow & Wealdstone to Elephant & Castle. Here, a train of refurbished LUL 1972 stock, currently the oldest trains on the London Underground, is seen heading away from the camera as it departs with a Bakerloo Line service to Elephant & Castle, on the afternoon of Saturday, 4th January 2020. This station was opened with the New Lines of the LNWR on 15th June 1912 alongside the original London & Birmingham Railway of 1837, now part of the WCML, which is to the right but out of view in this scene. A station on the main line at this location, called Willesden, was opened in 1841 and closed in 1866 when it was replaced by Willesden Junction, slightly to the south-east where the main line passed underneath the Hampstead Junction Railway of 1860. Platforms on the New Lines were also opened at Willesden Junction in 1912 while those on the main line were closed at the end of 1962 and have been completely demolished. 5/11</p><p>04/01/2020<br><small><a href='/contributors/David_Bosher'>David Bosher</a></small></p> <h4><a href='/locations/E/Elephant_and_Castle'>Elephant and Castle</a></h4><p><small><a href='/companies/B/Baker_Street_and_Waterloo_Railway'>Baker Street and Waterloo Railway</a></small></p><p>LU 1972 stock, now the oldest trains on the Underground having finally achieved their 50 years of service, waiting to depart for Queen's Park from the Bakerloo Line's southern terminus at Elephant & Castle, on 14th January 2022. The Northern Line platforms at this station closed on the following day along with the section from Moorgate to Kennington, to allow for a massive rebuilding of Bank station, and which will not reopen until May 2022. 6/11</p><p>14/01/2022<br><small><a href='/contributors/David_Bosher'>David Bosher</a></small></p> <h4><a href='/locations/L/Lambeth_North'>Lambeth North</a></h4><p><small><a href='/companies/B/Baker_Street_and_Waterloo_Railway'>Baker Street and Waterloo Railway</a></small></p><p>LU 1972 stock, now 50 years old and the oldest trains on the London Underground, heading away from its penultimate stop at Lambeth North with a Bakerloo Line service to Elephant & Castle, on 14th January 2022. This station could also do with some refurbishment. It opened as Kennington Road on 10th March 1906, the temporary terminus of the Baker Street & Waterloo Railway. It was renamed Westminster Bridge Road on 5th August that year when the line was extended to Elephant & Castle and became Lambeth North on 15th April 1917. 7/11</p><p>14/01/2022<br><small><a href='/contributors/David_Bosher'>David Bosher</a></small></p> <h4><a href='/locations/W/Willesden_Junction_Low_Level_New_Lines'>Willesden Junction Low Level [New Lines]</a></h4><p><small><a href='/companies/N/New_Lines_London_and_North_Western_Railway'>New Lines (London and North Western Railway)</a></small></p><p>Half a century old refurbished LU 1972 stock, with a Bakerloo Line service from Harrow & Wealdstone to Elephant & Castle, arriving at Willesden Junction Low Level on the scorching hot afternoon of Saturday, 6th August 2022. The Bakerloo is the only Underground line where both termini have an '&' in their names, though that might change if the Lewisham extension ever gets built. These are currently the oldest trains on the Underground and are set to make their half century of service as the pandemic has put their replacement back somewhat. 9/11</p><p>03/07/2021<br><small><a href='/contributors/David_Bosher'>David Bosher</a></small></p> <h4><a href='/locations/E/Edgware_Road'>Edgware Road</a></h4><p><small><a href='/companies/B/Baker_Street_and_Waterloo_Railway'>Baker Street and Waterloo Railway</a></small></p><p>Currently the oldest trains on the Underground, Bakerloo Line 1972 stock departs from Edgware Road heading south to Elephant & Castle on 10th January 2023. In the 1970s, London Transport wanted to close this station permanently but had second thoughts and it survives to this day. It is completely separate from the Metropolitan Line station, also served by Circle, District and Hammersmith & City Lines trains, with passengers having to walk along the street to interchange, including crossing the busy Marylebone Road in the shadow of the ghastly Marylebone flyover, and on this day, anybody doing so, like myself, was in for a right royal soaking. 10/11</p><p>10/01/2023<br><small><a href='/contributors/David_Bosher'>David Bosher</a></small></p> <h4><a href='/locations/R/Regents_Park'>Regents Park</a></h4><p><small><a href='/companies/B/Baker_Street_and_Waterloo_Railway'>Baker Street and Waterloo Railway</a></small></p><p>Currently the oldest trains on the Underground, and looking well past their sell-by date, a train of 1972 Bakerloo Line stock arrives at Regent's Park with a service from Elephant & Castle to Queens Park, on 11th February 2023. The painted tile wall name, dating from opening in 1906 but covered by advertising hoarding for many years, is incorrectly spelt with no apostrophe between the 't' and the 's'.
