Dunston Staiths Branch (North Eastern Railway)

Introduction

This branch served the Dunston Staiths from Low Fell Junction. Just south of the staithes was a marshalling yard. Norwood Junction [NER] became a four way junction with the opening of the Dunston Branch (North Eastern Railway).

This is an impressive large timber structure. These rail served staiths, on the south bank of the River Tyne and west of Gateshead, were opened by the North Eastern Railway in 1893 along with a marshalling yard to the south and line south east to Low Fell Junction.
