This four mile long 1908 deviation was opened by the Great Western Railway to the north of the original course of the Cornwall Railway between Saltash (Wealde Junction) and St Germans.
The new line replaced the old single track route via the Forder Lake Viaduct, Wivelscombe Viaduct, Lynher Viaduct [1st] and Boat House Viaduct (there was a loop at Wivelscombe).
