Shildon Tunnel (Stockton and Darlington Railway)

Introduction

This tunnel is still in use. It replaced the Black Boy Branch (Stockton and Darlington Railway). The tunnel was paid for and owned by one of the Directors of the Stockton and Darlington Railway.

This is a two platform station. The signal box at the south east end dates from 1887, built for the North Eastern Railway.
