Saturday afternoon shoppers disembark from a Glasgow Queen Street - Perth working on a very warm June 14th 1986. This was one of the last passenger workings on the line one could expect to be Class 27 hauled. While waiting at Queen Street to leave on one of these services, a young rail enthusiast came into my compartment and declared that I'd better prepare for a long journey. He reckoned that there were too many coaches for the Class 27 at the head of the train to lift up Cowlairs incline. Incredibly, he was right - the train stalled mid-incline, services out of Queen Street were disrupted, a class 37 had to be sent to the rescue and I got home an hour late. Respect!
