The summer of 1976 is remembered as a time of prolonged sunshine and drought, but this June Saturday afternoon in Beccles on the East Suffolk line was pretty dismal. The photo shows a class 47 restarting its train from London Liverpool Street, heading towards Lowestoft. Strangely, the train arrived, paused for several minutes, and then went on its way, without anyone getting on or off.
