Beccles

What a delight to see a relic from early British Railways days in the form of this Eastern Region nameboard at Beccles, on 3rd May 2023 from the ex-10.16 Greater Anglia service from Ipswich to Lowestoft. Beccles was originally a three-way junction with the Waveney Valley Line diverging west, closed in 1954, and the direct line to Yarmouth South Town, continuing north, closing in 1959. The station is on the Halesworth to Lowestoft section of the East Suffolk Line that was singled, but in December 2012 a passing loop was installed here, giving the station two platforms again and allowing an hourly service to operate.
