Withdrawn locomotives stored at Hurlford in August 1962 included Gresley class V3 2-6-2 67679, latterly a native of 65C Parkhead shed. Following the forced withdrawal of the recently introduced Blue Train electric fleet in December 1960, due to the discovery of a design fault in the switchgear, 67679 had been one of a number of redundant steam locomotives commandeered to work the emergency steam services put into operation pending remedial work and subsequent reintroduction of the new electric trains.
