NRM Shildon

NER No 1 (BR 26500) was one of a pair built to operate the one mile long Quayside branch in Newcastle. Much of the branch was located in steep, sharply curved tunnel linking Trafalgar Yard near Manors station with Quayside Yard alongside the Tyne. The locomotives were fitted for dual current collection, using overhead wire in the yards and third rail in the tunnel. Withdrawn in 1964, the preserved No 1 is seen at NRM Shildon in November 2007.
