Hands up all London area rail fans and commuters of the 50s, 60s and 70s who remember the lovely class 306 EMUs? They were built for the electrification from Liverpool Street to Shenfield in 1949, extended to Chelmsford and Southend Victoria in 1956. I loved travelling on these as a boy, bouncing up and down on the seats that were like armchairs, unlike the paving stone seats on recently introduced trains. The 306s ran for 32 years until 1981 and here is 017 outside Locomotion at Shildon, a long way from its original home, on 11th May 2019. It was stored at MoD Kineton for a time to resolve issues with asbestos, which was removed at Eastleigh before it moved to the East Anglian Railway Museum at Chappel & Wakes Colne in June 2011. It arrived at Shildon in October 2018 for assessment before restoration and will eventually find its way to York when space there permits. See image 48405.
