A stroll through the old coal yard at Hawkhead in June 1964, just prior to closure. The yard hosted two coal businesses, run by Messrs Murray and Lyon (notice the lion in front of the grounded goods van). The yard also operated a variation on the state-of-the-art local area communications network of the day - see the set of bells attached to the end of the van. The bells were linked to the firm's telephone - when it rang, whoever happened to be working in the yard at the time ran to the office to answer it.... see image 21903
