In 1847 the former Newcastle and North Shields Railway was extended by the Newcastle and Berwick Railway from North Shields to a new terminus at Tynemouth, seen here in July 1981. Despite losing its passenger service as long ago as 1882 with the opening of the current through station it went on to serve as Tynemouth goods depot well into the second half of the 20th century. Fortunately, the building survives, refurbished in residential use.
