The former Newcastle and Berwick Railway terminus, built to accommodate the extension of the line from North Shields in 1847. The station lost its passenger service in 1882 with the opening of the current through station, following which it served as the local goods depot for many years. It was later refurbished and converted for residential use. The old building is seen here in August 2010 looking as good as ever see image 21705.
