Entrance to the former Londesborough Road station in the Autumn of 2008. Built to help cope with high volume of rail excursion traffic descending on the town in the early 1900s, the station was opened as Scarborough Excursion in 1908, in a location just south of the main Scarborough station (which was renamed Scarborough Central). Following the continued reduction in UK seaside rail excursion traffic throughout the late 50s and early 60s Londesborough Road (the name was changed in 1933) eventually closed in July 1966, having handled its last excursion train 3 years previously. Scarborough Central reverted to plain Scarborough in May 1969.
