An arm is raised from the cab of Peak No 17 for the benefit of the camera as the up Waverley climbs away from Hawick in June 1968. Below left stands Velocette KSG 485, which, at that time, had probably chased more trains than it had consumed gallons of petrol. Editors note: From our various exchanges I happen to know that this one has a special place in BMcC's railway recollections. It was taken on the day he obtained his science degree results from Edinburgh University and had headed off on the bike for a celebratory photo-shoot. Coincidentally, the photograph was subsequently used in a book by Sandy Mullay who (without any knowledge of the foregoing) referred in his caption to the wave from the cab as ... toasting the photographer ... nice one!
