Addiewell

Addiewell village... founded in 1866 in connection with the great chemical works, comprising a large number of factory buildings, retort sheds etc, producing vast quantities of paraffin, naphtha, paraffin candles and ammonia and looking like an assemblage of factories... (Ordnance Gazetteer of Scotland 1885). Only a few houses remain in the village nowadays and things really are as rural as they look here on 21 May 2009, as 156437 takes the slow route between Edinburgh Waverley and Glasgow Central.
