Rayne

This is a freight wagon label found in the debris of then (August 1980) disused and vandalized Rayne station in Essex. It refers to a consignment of seed potatoes transported from Leysmill (for Friockheim) on the former Arbroath to Forfar line to a farmer in Rayne. Despatched on 22 November 1961, the sacks of potatoes travelled via Berwick and Whitemoor before arriving at Rayne at 10 a.m. a mere 3 days later. Rayne was closed to goods on December 7th 1964 (regular passenger traffic had ceased in 1952).
