Pinkston Mineral Yard

Pinkston Mineral Yard was a coal yard with a large fan of rails. It was still in use as a coal depot in 1987, when this photograph was taken, despite closure of the Port Dundas branch stub in 1983. Various sections of the branch and yard track remained as much of it ran on concrete aprons and cobbled streets. The branch served this coal yard, Pinkston Power station, various warehouses, Tennent's Wellpark brewery and the canal harbour at Port Dundas. The area was also served by the Caledonian Railway and the two systems met in the dock area. The view looks to the junction with the Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway at the head of the Cowlairs Incline with the old approach to Port Dundas running off to the left and reaching Port Dundas and Pinkston Power station via a reversal.
