In response to Mark Dufton's historic shot see image 26070, this shot shows how much Witham has changed. It is taken pointing towards Maldon, and further out along the branch; but it is clear from the height of the road overbridge that the industrial estate has covered the trackbed to at least a metre depth, so that both the former branch and presumably siding have disappeared without trace in this section. We had heard that we could cycle to Maldon, but only managed 1.5 miles before having to turn back. Poor signposting and surfaces, a missing river bridge, aggressive dogs, broken glass, and brambles did not help!
