Further to Ken Strachan's picture of the Witham-Maldon line trackbed today see image 26138, here is the corresponding scene from approximately the same spot on 28th August 1977. The road bridge is the point of comparison. The sign on the left warns industrial rail traffic from the Rom River factory beyond the bridge that it must not pass through the gates (behind the photographer) that mark the beginning of British Rail jurisdiction.
