Backworth Colliery
Shunting activity in the yard at Backworth Colliery is captured by enthusiasts. At this time it was rumoured that the steam locomotives would soon be gone from the Backworth and Weetslade system and, soon after this visit, some ex-BR D95xx shunters duly arrived including D9502 See image 18903 and also the last locomotive built at Swindon Works - D9555. This picture, showing two Austerity 0-6-0ST locos working with steel and wooden bodied wagons, looks south towards the level crossing where the line continued beyond down to Percy Main.
