Parkandillack Works

Shunting in the half light. I must say if I were involved I'd like to be dressed in bright orange too. This train is the empties on arrival from Fowey being handled at Parkandillack - a complex operation involving, for some of the time, the locomotive both pushing and pulling rakes of wagons simultaneously. The view looks north and this freight line once continued north to join the Newquay line at St Dennis Junction. Today it is a branch from Burngullow (you can just see the buffer in this shot). There were plans to re-open the line northwards to St Dennis Junction and upgrade the line for passengers. The line from St Dennis Junction to Goonbarrow Junction would be abandoned and from there to Par given over to freight. Fortunately for the small villages at Roche, Bugle and Luxulyan this has not gone ahead.
