Woofferton: A Class 60 heads south with a freight past the former Woofferton station, Shropshire, on 18 November 2008. The station, closed in July 1961, still retains its signalbox, passing loop and fine array of ex-GW signals together with a former goods shed (although it has seen better days). Just beyond the signal box was the junction for the branch line to Tenbury Wells where the S&HJ stopped but the GW continued through Cleobury Mortimer to Bewdley. The Clee hills form the backdrop.

Coombe Junction: Coombe Junction, just after the last train of the day (drat) viewed from Coombe Level Crossing. This view looks south. Some distance behind the camera is Coombe station and the short freight only line to Moorswater part of which is a stub of the Liskeard and Caradon Railway. Also the mainline crosses over the top at 90 degrees. The line to the left runs to Liskeard station and forms a link between what were two separate systems; the Cornwall Railway and the Liskeard and Looe Railway. The line to the right continues down to Looe. Trains from Liskeard going to Looe leave a platform at 90 degrees to the mainline platforms heading north, turn slowly round passing under the mainline southwards before approaching Coombe Junction from the south, reverse at Coombe and then head off south from the junction due to the unusual arrangement. It's a ponderous journey through a lovely part of the country. The small hut on the left contains the ground frame for the junction.

Luxulyan: The morning Goonbarrow Junction to Fowey loaded China Clay train heads south from Luxulyan. The view is from Treffy's viaduct and the train is on a 'new' section of line which replaced a nearby incline and, sadly, Treffy's Viaduct.

Golant: China Clay from Goonbarrow, Rock Dries Siding, passes Golant as it approaches the unloading facility at Carne Point just north of Fowey. Moments before the train arrived a number of 'pedestrians' had to quit the trackbed. Readers of RAIL 630 will find this viewpoint strangely familar (p70) although a few houses have been repainted (and built) in the intervening years.

Burngullow: On the right the Wednesdays only St Blazey - Penzance (Long Rocks) - St Blazey oil train scoots east back through Burngullow. On this occasion this was one tank. To the left is a Steelman locomotive in the Blackpool Driers sidings. The mainline (the two tracks to the right) between here and Probus (9 miles west) has been re-doubled in recent years. St Blazey: A single coach sprinter heads north east from St Blazey - briefly as the line is about to turn north west to head for Newquay. The sprinter is nearby the point where the Pontsmill works siding leaves the line. This section of line replaced an earlier canal which ran from Par Harbour to Pontsmill from which Treffry's Railway continued to Bugle (Mollinis).

Treffry's Viaduct: Treffry's Viaduct from the east end in November 2009. This viaduct was on Treffry's (eastern) Railway. The railway ran from the canal at Pontsmill up the 1 in 10 Carmeers incline, then on the level it ran over the viaduct and on to Bugle. The line was horse worked except on the incline. The present day Newquay - Par line passes under this viaduct on a new alignment at the west end.

Parkandillack Works: Shunting in the half light. I must say if I were involved I'd like to be dressed in bright orange too. This train is the empties on arrival from Fowey being handled at Parkandillack - a complex operation involving, for some of the time, the locomotive both pushing and pulling rakes of wagons simultaneously. The view looks north and this freight line once continued north to join the Newquay line at St Dennis Junction. Today it is a branch from Burngullow (you can just see the buffer in this shot). There were plans to re-open the line northwards to St Dennis Junction and upgrade the line for passengers. The line from St Dennis Junction to Goonbarrow Junction would be abandoned and from there to Par given over to freight. Fortunately for the small villages at Roche, Bugle and Luxulyan this has not gone ahead.
