Carnforth

Coaling towers were once a distinctive skyline feature in many places but are very rare now. The tower at Carnforth is a concrete post-war structure and survives in the West Coast Railway depot although it is no longer operational. It is seen here from Carnforth station car park with the depot water tower alongside. The old main line platforms and the subway entrance can be seen to the left of the station building, which now houses a travel centre booking office and small businesses.
