Busy scene on the harbourside at Whitehaven with two 0-4-0ST locomotives, a rake of BR coal hoppers and an NCB wooden bodied wagon. Peckett Victoria is on the left and a numberless and unnamed Robert Stephenson Hawthorn locomotive, believed to date from 1942 and to have been owned by the local Haig Colliery, is on the right. The houses in the background still overlook the harbour and the retaining wall is still there but, although it was busy for some time after 1968, the coal traffic and the rails are now long gone. (Thanks to Chris Gomersall and Bill Jamieson for additional information).
