The 309' spire of St Walburge's Church, Preston (the third highest in the country) was a feature of many steam age photos of trains approaching Preston station from the north or from Blackpool. The lineside is far less accessible these days and the full spire can only really be included in pictures of the Blackpool line. In this view from St. Mark's Rd, Northern Pacer 142046 is approaching the junction with the WCML on a Blackpool South to Colne service.
