The first of the crossings of the Gala Water made by the Waverley route running north from Galashiels station lay between Plumtreehall Brae and Wheatlands Road on a bridge that has since been adapted for pedestrian use. The bridge, seen here looking north west on 11 April 2010, also marked the start of the gradual divergence of the Waverley and Peebles lines at Kilnknowe Junction.
