Seafield pit, just to the south of Kirkcaldy, was planned in the late 1950s and it was said it would last for 150 years. Despite this 'kiss of death' in longevity terms it did, nonetheless, manage 23 years in full production, closing in 1988 and having its prominent towers blown up the following year. It had a seam
reaching well out under the Firth of Forth, coincidentally towards
Seafield in Edinburgh which is within sight. This is, as far as I can recall, where the signal box stood between the ECML (left) and access to the colliery. See image 29023
