Much of the area to the north of the E&G line between Haymarket station (in the right background) and Haymarket shed used to be occupied by a rail-served coal yard, but this was abandoned in the 1990s, the rails having long gone. This view in January 1998 shows the cobbled access road and loading banks, about to be swept away in a development of office buildings. The access road was realigned to run just over the fence from the station. It was given the name 'Haymarket Yards', effectively commemorating a coal depot! See image 30546
