Grizedale Reservoir

Grizedale is one of four linked reservoirs in the hills above Garstang that supply Blackpool's water. Recent droughts have exposed this curious set of narrow gauge rails that seemed to have been used as a crude slipway from a long demolished boathouse and disappear deep under the water. Were these rails used in the original building of the reservoir and its dam in 1866 and then reused here? Map Reference SD 525484 Footnote: It has been suggested that the demolished building was a maintenance shed rather than a boat house and the tracks were used to get equipment to the bottom of the reservoir when it had been drained.
