Sighthill West Junction

170 459 approaches Springburn station with a service from Glasgow Queen Street High Level on 16 October.  It has just cleared the cord from Cowlairs South Junction which curves sharply to the left. Going off to the right (and heading north) are the lines to Cowlairs West Junction and the EGML.  They have no passenger services though for a while, before the cord was laid in 1993, trains from Glasgow to Cumbernauld would reverse after clearing West Junction and use this line.  It was either that or get an electric from Queen Street Low Level and change at Springburn to a DMU going in the opposite direction see image 19961. I think we can agree the cord was a boon.
