Angling Club Cottage

View from the rear of the 11.15 Galashiels-Peebles-Edinburgh train between Clovenfords and Thornielee (on the last day of service, 3rd February 1962) showing how high the line climbed above the Tweed Valley. The view is near the site of the former Angling Club Cottage (1898), a basic halt built to serve members of the Edinburgh Angling Club who fished from a boating pool on the Tweed below. It was abandoned shortly after the end of World War II. Note also, in the middle distance, the tell-tale stretch of modern concrete sleepers - a sure sign that the line was about to close!
