The map of which this is an extract was produced at a special scale for ARP (Air Raid Precautions), though the imprint date appears to be 1947. It has clearly been put together from maps at a slightly larger scale and with different revision dates: notice the disappearing housing estate at top right. Craigleith Junction is at the very bottom, then Crew Junction. Understandably perhaps most of the map hadn't kept pace with inter-war developments around Crewe (note spelling) Toll, and East Pilton Halt (which opened in 1934) is not shown. This wooden halt was situated between the hospital and Bruce Peebles' engineering works, an air-raid target.
