This relic of bottom-end railway architecture looks like something
you'd come across on a long-lifted branch. In fact it's just off the Down platform at Kirkcaldy in April 2011. My guess is that it was an inflammables store (oil for signal lamps?) placed just far enough out of harms way, and that it's never been worth the cost and bother of removing it.
