A non-stop freight from the north exchanges tokens at speed with the Invergordon signalman in early 1974. With Inverness loco drivers going by nicknames such as 'The Cowboy' and 'The Bandit', manual exchange of tokens could be a hair-raising experience, as the photographer remembers only too well from his time as a temporary BR employee doing (unofficial) signalling duties!
