WD 2-8-0 No. 90417 is perhaps contemplating its eventual demise as it stands in the pouring rain in the yard at Sunderland South Dock in May 1967. Before the end of the year it would be cut up into small chunks and loaded into 16T mineral wagons, a fate awaiting it at the Hughes Bolckow yard in North Blyth. However at this time 90417 still had some 4 months of active service left, surviving until the end of steam at Sunderland in September of that year.
