Bonnington Viaduct [CR]

A 1974 view south past the remains of the viaduct that carried the Caledonian 'Leith New Lines' over the trackbed of the NB North Leith branch at Bonnington East Junction. The abutment on the extreme right stands at the bottom of Gosford Place and Bonnington station is off picture to the left. The viaduct spanned Bonnington East Junction where the NB line split 3 ways. The branch south met with the line from Granton (the embankment running right to left across the centre of the picture) at Bonnington South Junction, just north of Powderhall station - now occupied by the refuse disposal depot left of centre. The line straight ahead ran to Warriston Junction where it joined the original Granton - Canal Street line to the north of Scotland Street. The third branch turned north to join the Granton line at Bonnington North Junction. See image 2196
