A rare sight these days and very welcome on a fine summer evening in July 2011. DRS 20308 and 20309 head the 6K73 Sellafield to Crewe flasks south along the WCML. 20309 emerged from Robert Stephenson Hawthorn works as D8075 in the summer of 1961 and so has just celebrated its fiftieth birthday. 20308, as D8187, was from the later post Clayton batch built at Vulcan Foundry in 1967. The distinctive EE whistle from their engines' exhausts as they ambled past evoked many memories.
