Although the railway locomotives in the Power Hall at Manchester Museum of Science and Industry are all static exhibits there are numerous working stationary steam engines and so the smell of steam and hot oil gives the building a special atmosphere. Isle of Man Railway 2-4-0T No. 3 Pender was constructed by Beyer Peacock in 1873 at Gorton and is now a sectioned exhibit with other Manchester built locomotives behind.
