Taking on water at Blackburn on 4 August 1968 is BR Standard class 5 4-6-0 no 73069. The locomotive had recently arrived from Manchester Victoria see image 31774 with the RCTS 'End of Steam Commemorative Railtour' piloted by 8F no 48476. The 8F was about to be replaced by Black 5 no 45407 for the journey to Lostock Hall via Hellifield, Skipton and Burnley. The special would return to Euston later that day from Stockport behind E3183.
