The special train run to commemorate the centenary of the 28th July 1874 opening of the final phase of the Far North Line powers up the gradient from Forsinard to the County March Summit, headed by two Inverness Class 26s. At that time there were no Sunday trains north of Lairg, although a through train of newspaper vans from Manchester Victoria ran to Lairg on Sunday mornings, returning to Inverness as a passenger service.
