By sheer coincidence (honestly!) the photographer found that his holiday in Putbus on the island of Ruegen concided with the 14th and 15th June annual Putbus Railfest. On 14th June, ex Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR) Class 112 diesel and Class 52 steam locos prepare to operate the first Plandampf train of the day to Bergen auf Ruegen, substituting for the normal diesel unit service. The Plandampf is a common sight in Germany, with heritage locomotives taking over normal timetabled services - a lesson perhaps for the Borders Railway?
